It is so crisp and fresh looking, is a cool alternative to the basic blue jean, and it looks great with everything from brights to neutrals. And of course, it is an amazing look this time of year.

Here’s how to express your inner Prepster in a more modern way, and of course, with a twist.

To make it easier on you though, I have created a little cheat sheet for each body type so you know which styles will flatter your shape most.

Whether you are curvy, not so curvy, broader up top, fuller below, or carry your weight in the middle – there are tips for every shape!

If you have an Hourglass shape and your hips and shoulder line are similar in width, but you have a narrow and shaped waistline, go for shaped styles that show off you curves and your small waist like a wrap or belted dress.

If you have Triangle shape where your shoulders and upper body are much narrower in comparison to your lower half, your best style of dresses include anything with a shaped or belted waist, that slightly flows away from your lower half while focusing the attention (with colours, pattern, texture, details) on the upper half.

If you have an Inverted Triangle shape and your shoulders/upper body are much wider than your lower body (narrow hips), go for dresses that create shape in the waistline, adds volume to the lower half of the body with volume and/or details, and also minimizes the upper body at the same time and makes the shoulder/chest area appear narrower using halter necks, scoop necks, or v-necks.

If you have a Rectangle shape where your shoulders and hips are roughly the same width and you don’t have much of a defined waistline, your best styles will be dresses that are belted or shaped at the waist to create the illusion of a waistline, and at the same time, brings the focus to the bustline or at the hem with things like prints, texture, and details.

Lastly, if you have a Diamond shape where you carry your weight around your midsection, go for dresses that skim over the midsection like empire styles. This body type usually has great legs, so bring the focus to that area with detailed hemlines, while at the same time also bringing the eye up (anywhere but to the midsection) with lower necklines and shoulder and sleeve details.

You may be tempted to pack it all because you don’t want to be left with “nothing to wear” for that one unplanned outing, but you only have so much space in your bag/suitcase – so you need to pack smart.

Well, I recently had a client of mine message me before her upcoming 10 day trip to California with a similar dilemma. During her vacation, they were going to be doing it all – from wine tours, to sightseeing, to fancy dinners out, and shopping trips.

She was confused about how to pack for the diversity of the trip, and with the weather from San Franciso to San Diego varying so much, she was really stuck.

Here was my suggestion (and a “packing cheat sheet” you can use when shopping for your next holiday).

First of all, accessories will be key here as they can take a look from casual to more dressed up, and they obviously take up less room in your suitcase/bag.

One other thing is to stick to a colour theme (for example – coral/green/blue/cream) so everything can be easily mixed and matched, and go for more solids than patterns.

Lastly, keep it to about 12 items (not including shoes and accessories) like the following…

• 2 Casual Tank Tops
• 2 Dressier Sleeveless Tops

• Lightweight Sweater/Cardigan
• A cargo pant or shorts (or yoga pants – some sort of comfy pants) for walks

• 2 Dresses (one dressier one, and one casual one that could be dressed up for nights out)
• Longer casual top to wear with leggings/jeggings
• Pair of Leggings/Jeggings
• Pair of dressy jeans
• A zip up hoodie or other warmer casual sweater

• Casual walking shoes (in a neutral)
  
• Dressy Sandals (in a neutral)
  
• Pair of Heels (in a neutral)
  

• Accessories – necklaces, earrings, light weight scarves, belts, etc.

From tulip styles, to a-lines and wraps – there is a variety of styles to choose from.
